DIY Dashiki

We are a little late posting this week due to the Many festivities that occur on the Fourth of July, the cookouts, the fireworks and the food. Today we are showcasing a menswear dashiki that was made using Butterick B5725 commercial pattern.  We chose this beautiful navy blue, red and green flower printed cotton fabric from a local fabric shop.

The only thing that deters me from using this pattern again is the sizing. I created size small but had to  take in the side seams at least 3 inches on each side in order for the garment to fit the model.  This pattern may be rather old because it fits HUGE! The menswear dashiki’s that you see in the market today are more form fitting. This piece has a front and side slits for comfort. The top is paired with red cotton short, fresh white “No Shell Toe” Adidas, jewelry and an Atlanta Braves baseball cap. I will create my own pattern next time because it’s too much extra work to size down a commercial pattern down.

Until  next time ……. create your style!
